Wow! What a day for the Technophobia team!
We raised a massive £571.24 for Comic Relief that Technophobia then matched to make a final whopping total of £1,142.48 and here’s how we did it...
We wore something funny
The Technophobia team donned their best night attire and arrived at work wearing a bright array of pyjamas including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, pink cupcakes and even a cow romper suit. Some carried teddies and others padded through the offices with Big Foot feet. Each member of staff donated their pennies (and pounds!) for the privilege.
We danced somewhere funny
At 1pm, our PJ wearing staff picked their playlists, fired up their iPods and headed onto the street for a fifteen minute Flash Mob Silent Disco in the sunshine. Passersby kindly donated to our bucket-carrying ravers and a few were even moved to join in. You can see what happened on Vimeo but don't say we didn't warn you!
We baked something funny
Our all day cake sale generated some serious attention. The designated ‘cake table’ was full of all kinds of homemade treats to tickle the taste buds of our sweet-toothed team and not only displayed the cooking talents of Technophobia, but raised a massive £80 from selling them off! Good bye post-Christmas weight-loss, hello cholesterol.
And we completed challenges that were very funny.... for those watching
This year, we decided to encourage the Technophobia team to suggest and sponsor other members of the team to either spend the day extinguishing certain habits or carry out a forfeit.
Our mild mannered and softly spoken Canadian Financial Director who is not given to using foul language even under the most trying circumstances was sponsored to give a ‘polite’ reading in front of the rest of the company. The reading, eloquently entitled ‘To Swear or Not To Swear’ was well received by the rest of the Technophobia team who collectively sponsored Charlene a whopping £60 to complete the profanity laden reading.
Erica, our somewhat vocal Account Executive was sponsored to stay silent from 9am until 4pm. She raised a truly amazing £183 and what’s more, actually managed to stay mute for the duration! The team kindly presented her with a mini white board and pen to at least curb her frustration!
The last hour of Red Nose Day was spent participating in the Office Olympics. The original intention was to hold a Technophobia’s got Talent contest but after all the baking, grooving and dressing up we felt that our talents had been demonstrated enough throughout the day and decided to embrace our competitive instinct instead.
The Office Olympics included a chilli & jalapeño eating competition, a Monster Munch eating competition, paper aeroplane design and launch, limbo and a three-question quiz. In doing so we discovered even more talents hidden amongst the team!
The whole company really got involved in the spirit of Red Nose Day and as an added bonus to raising funds for a great cause, discovered in laughing with and at each other it also turned into an amazing team building event. A massive thank you and pat on the back to everyone that took part to help make it what it was – epic!
