Gordon Brown meets TED

23/07/2009

Our illustrious leader, Gordon Brown, made a surprise appearance at TED Global earlier this week. The video of his presentation can be seen on the TED website.

This is interesting in many ways, firstly to see Gordon Brown speaking without extensive notes was a rare delight. But to see him talk about the power and importance of technology to join people together in a ‘global society’ without notes made me think that he actually understands this topic.

The heart-string pulling feels a little condescending, particularly considering the (invitation) audience - perhaps Gordon was playing to the TV news sound bite audience.

The most reassuring aspect of the Gordon Brown appearance is that both major political parties are now demonstrating that they understand that technology and the Internet is a force for change for the good in the World.

You can see how George Osborne thinks that the Internet will change politics in this country.
