Planning resource selects Technophobia for website usability review and redesign
24/04/2009
Planning Portal, the UK Government’s online planning and building regulations resource for England and Wales, has appointed Technophobia, in partnership with user experience consultants cxpartners, to undertake a comprehensive user experience review and interface redesign of its flagship website.
The usability study and redesign will focus upon the information architecture and interface design of the site to ensure a straightforward user experience and provide the highest possible level of accessibility for each of its user groups. cxpartners will conduct in-depth user research at each stage of the development, including continual involvement of people with disabilities. The findings from the research will be instrumental in informing and validating the information architecture and design decisions. We will revitalise the site by applying a fresh new creative treatment. The commission was made following the successful interface design and front-end development of the E-consultation Hub; a key component of The Planning Portal.
Richard Caddick, Managing Director at cxpartners comments, “The Planning Portal is the online planning and building resource for England and Wales giving users the ability to research requirements and complete applications. Creating an engaging experience for all users (from members of the public to planning professionals) is central to its success and the team at Planning Portal is committed to making the site both visually appealing and easy to use. By involving the diverse audience base from the start of project we’ll ensure that the new site is compelling and easy to use for everyone.”
Amelia Thorne, Managing Director at Technophobia added, ‘‘Not only is usability key to the success and effectiveness of this site but its performance is also a critical ingredient; Planning Portal recognise that it is essential to ensure that the website is robust, accessible to as many users as possible and integrates seamlessly with the information management systems.’’
