The Background

The Planning Portal is the UK Government’s online planning and building regulations resource for England and Wales. It provides a one-stop-shop for planning services and will act as a central repository and exchange for information relating to planning applications. It has a diverse target audience, including local authorities, interested members of the public, consultants and applicants.

The Challenge

We were appointed by the Department for Communities and Local Government to act as consultants to assist and advise on the user interface design and development for an E-consultation Hub; a key component of The Planning Portal.

The Response

Drawing upon our extensive experience we were able to provide expert guidance in the design of the E-Consultations Hub interface. We know that the key to the success of any effective interface is the creation of an intuitive user journey that is both relevant and technically accessible to all its stakeholders. An effective application on the site must limit the number of frustrated users who drop out and ensure a friction-free route to their objectives.
