Established in 1995 Technophobia was founded by entrepreneurs Pip and Amelia Thorne. The impetus behind Technophobia was not only a vision of the unlimited potential of the web but also the desire to create a business that valued and supported employees, clients and the wider community alike.
A lot has happened to web in the last 15 years, here are just a few highlights of our many achievements since 1995:
1995 – Technophobia established.
1996 – Brought the first UK High Street bank to the World Wide Web; co-operativebank.co.uk
1997 – Much of our time was spent working with The Co-operative Bank pioneering online services.
1998 – Launched a redesign of the Royal Society for Chemistry website.
1999 – Launched smile.co.uk for The Co-operative Bank, the UK’s first online only bank.
2000 – Launched Norweb Energi Online for Norweb plc.
2001 - Technophobia were the fastest growing company in the UK based in an inner-city area and winners of the inaugural Inner City 100 Awards, backed by Rt. Hon Gordon Brown.
2002 – The Co-operative Bank Financial Advisers website designed by Technophobia is granted the prestigious 'See It Right' Award from the Royal National Institute for the Blind and Standard Life.
2003 – Technophobia is listed as the highest-placed North-East based agency within the 'Design & Build' category of New Media Age's 'Top 100 Interactive Agencies 2003' league table.
2004 – A growth surge took the company from 100th to 74th in New Media Age's Top 100 interactive agencies.
2005 – Technophobia underlines its commitment to provide exceptional levels of service by attaining ISO 9001:2000 Standard for its quality management systems.
2006 – Technophobia’s reputation for high resilience internet security is recognised by the achievement of ISO 27001:2005, Information Security Management System certification and our commitment to our environment policy is officially recognised, with achievement of ISO 14001:2004 certification.
2007 – Technophobia re-launch Best Western GB site.
2008 – Technophobia launch new online ICT self-review framework tool for Becta.
2009 – Technophobia releases an online recruitment system for South Yorkshire Police.
2010 – Release of the _connect project for The Technology Strategy Board.
2011 - Technophobia acquired by Capita Group
